The Gift of Art
Is it the Marmite Response? 28/11/20
A painting is a personal thing. Have you ever had a debate with someone over the merits of a painting? Our likes and dislikes can be so different and our reasons behind our opinions are many and perhaps complex.
Perhaps some art evokes the Marmite response (in the UK people love or hate Marmite). So if this is the case can you ever buy a painting as a gift for someone else. Of course, the answer is yes. It is obviously easier if you know the recipient already collects the artist’s work or you have viewed the piece together and the person has said how much the piece appeals to them. Perhaps you know their tastes so well or perhaps you share a home and know the painting would be perfect for that room/wall space.
But what about buying online without seeing the actual painting. Artists appreciate the dilemma and try to ensure the images on their site are the best possible and provide accurate measurements. Buyers often say an artwork looks even better than the photo when it arrives. So like all gifts there is the element of chance but like other goods bought there is always a returns policy(read the small print, terms and conditions).
A painting may be just the perfect, unique present for a loved one on a birthday, special anniversary or at Christmas or perhaps you may decide to treat yourself to a special gift. I’m sure you deserve it!
